Mini Me

God sure teaches you a lot when you're toe-to-toe with a tiny replica of yourself...
I have never loved a person (besides my wonderful man) more than I love her. And yet, at the same time I have never been so sideswiped by my own personality...in the form of a pint-sized beauty queen. Wow. Parenting...it's not for wusses!

One might expect me to focus on my beautiful, bright granddaughter. However, as I read these blogs, I am literally overwhelmed by my amazing daughter - so many gifts, so much understanding - watching her wisdom grow almost before my eyes. I once thought that watching her progress from age two until four was like watching a ball in a pinball machine that grew each time it struck an obstacle. Later, from age ten to thirteen was like watching a flower bloom in fast forward. When she became sixteen, her learning and maturity was more like a rain forest vine - growing and extending rapidly under the downpour of new experiences. During her high school and college years, she was like a young tree, stretching herself ever upward to absorb more sun and sinking her roots deep to drink in new waters.
Now, as I read her blogs, my heart is bursting with pride. My mind's eye sees her as a beautiful and gracious queen, extending her realm of love and wisdom across the landscape of those around her.
The process is slower and more a product of deliberation and prayer. It gives me great pleasure to know that Lily is in the good hands of Carlye, Sean and God. Sean is in the good hands of Lily, Carlye and God. And, Carlye is in the good hands of Sean, Lily and God. What a rich, bright, encouraging, responsible and Godly realm awaits the new little sister. She too will be in good hands. Proud father and grandfather. Steve
